One Thing | Sam Storms
Sam Storms summarizes his book in these words:
"My point is simply that passionate and joyful admiration of God, and not merely intellectual apprehension, is the aim of our existence. If God is to be supremely glorified in us it’s essential that we be supremely glad in him and in what he has done for us in Jesus."
Anyone accustomed to the ministry of John Piper will recognize this as Christian Hedonism, and Storms himself uses the term to describe his own “theory of everything.” But the question then becomes, "Why not read Piper's books on this subject, since he is most well-known for this emphasis in his teaching?" The answer is, because Sam Storms has written a very capable argument which is much more readable and accessible than Piper's style of writing. He uses language which is both simple and passionate—one never suffers confusion over what he means or whether he believes it himself. And he easily keeps the reader’s attention by frequently shifting his mode of delivery, using everything from astronomy to atoms for examples of his point. But far from blitzing the reader, this array focuses him on the glory of God and what delight can be found in Him.
We trust the contents of this book will prove to be a useful guide in focusing your life around the glory of God in Christ. We highly recommend it!
