Thoughts for Young Men | J.C. Ryle
This is one of those rare books that stands the test of time. Ryle's "Thoughts for Young Men" has been imparting wisdom to readers for 150 years. We have never handed this book to anyone who did not warmly thank us after reading it. The format of the book is simple and straightforward, yet grandfatherly in tone. If ever a book made you feel that someone was putting their hand on your shoulders and tenderly but firmly exhorting you about important matters, this would be that book.
We are very pleased to finally be bringing this title to press. Our view is that the book is generally either poorly produced, or priced too high (not that the content is unworthy of a high price, but that a high price limits the freedom with which people can and will give the book to others). We've made the book to feel nice and hold up, yet the price is low enough that you should be able to pass them out.
Ryle's book unfolds along the following lines: First, he explains the various reasons young men are especially in need of exhortation. Second, he works through various dangers young men face. Third, he gives general counsel to young men. Fourth, he puts forward some general resolutions that will help young men in light of the material previously set forth.
